Department for Education shelves plans for a code of practice for some religious schools - Response from Tristram Hunt

Tristram Hunt MP, Labour’s Shadow Education Secretary, responding to reports that the Department for Education has shelved plans for a code of practice for some religious schools, said:

“Events in Birmingham and elsewhere have revealed that there is a dangerous lack of oversight of our school system. Step-by-step, David Cameron’s response, already inadequate, has unravelled.

"The public want to know that schools of all types that are educating our children are not open to infiltration by radical hard-liners. David Cameron’s Government is failing to provide the measures that are necessary.”
