Chris Leslie MP, Labour’s Shadow Chief Secretary to the Treasury, speaking after the Prime Minister’s statement to the Commons on the EU Summit, said:

“Ken Clarke has pulled the rug from under David Cameron’s claims. When even a former Conservative Chancellor admits the government would have known about it for the last five months, it’s clear that the Prime Minister’s story does not stack up.

“David Cameron and George Osborne must finally come clean and admit when the Government first knew Britain would be hit with this bill – and why they failed to do anything about it for so long.”
