National Grid confirms there will be tighter squeeze on power supply this winter - Caroline Flint

Caroline Flint MP, Labour’s Shadow Energy and Climate Change Secretary, commenting on National Grid’s winter outlook report, said:

“The power supply is essential to almost every aspect of life. Our homes and businesses depend on it, as do our public services and much of our critical national infrastructure. This report confirms that there will be a tighter squeeze on our power supply this winter, which is why National Grid have had to take urgent short term action.

“The security of our energy supply has not been helped by the fall in investment under this Government. With a quarter of our power stations closing this decade it is vital that we bring forward investment in secure and clean energy for the future. That’s why the next Labour Government will prioritise energy saving, set a decarbonisation target to encourage investment in our energy infrastructure and establish a dedicated Energy Security Board to make sure Britain has a long-term plan to strengthen our energy security.”
