Cameron and Theresa May promised a vote in Parliament on the European arrest warrant, but they are ducking and diving to avoid one - Cooper

Yvette Cooper MP, Shadow Home Secretary said:

“David Cameron and Theresa May promised a vote in Parliament on the European arrest warrant, but they are ducking and diving to avoid one because they are running scared of their own back benchers.

“Time and again on Europe they just do nothing but play games. They promise a vote, then only pretend to have one. They promise their backbenchers they will opt out of lots of EU justice cooperation, when in fact they know we need to work with other countries to catch criminals. And they pretend to have done deals on EU funding when they haven’t saved a penny.

“Why can’t they just be straight with people? We need the European Arrest Warrant and we should vote for it. With all this tricky game-playing it’s no wonder people don’t trust David Cameron on Europe.”
