Comment on Theresa May's announcement on police reforms
Jack Dromey MP, Labour’s Shadow Policing Minister, commenting on Theresa May’s announcement on police reforms said:
“The overwhelming majority of police officers are decent and dedicated men and women. But it is right to root out corruption and wrongdoing.
"It’s welcome that Theresa May has accepted Labour’s plan for public misconduct hearings, but she needs to be more radical. The failed Independent Police Complaints Commission must be replaced as part of a tougher, more robust system of standards.
"Neither the public nor the police have confidence in the IPCC. That’s why Labour will abolish the body instead putting in place a strong and effective investigative watchdog, which will uphold the highest standards."
