Caroline Flint MP, Labour’s Shadow Energy and Climate Change Secretary, commenting on an announcement from Energy UK that some customers with gas pre-payment meters have been overcharged because of problems with their meter, said:

“Prepayment meters are often a last resort for people struggling to manage their energy bills or in debt to their energy supply. These customers can ill afford to be paying for energy they haven’t even used. 

“This is the latest example of an energy market that is not working in customers’ interests. That’s why the next Labour Government will freeze energy prices until 2017, reform the energy market and create a tough new regulator with the power to strip energy companies of their licences if they repeatedly mistreat customers.”
