Carers Rights Day - It’s not right that people who do so much get so little in return - Liz Kendall

Liz Kendall MP, Labour’s Shadow Minister for Care and Older People, commenting on research released on Carers Rights Day by Carers UK said:

“Millions of families are already looking after their elderly or disabled relatives, and today’s research shows 6,000 more become carers every single day.

“This can often be a real struggle and many carers say they feel pushed to breaking point.

“Too often they don’t come forward for help or get any breaks because they simply don’t know they are entitled to them. Many don’t even see themselves as being a carer – they’re just a son, daughter, husband or wife trying to look after the person they love.

“It’s not right that people who do so much get so little in return. That’s why Labour is calling for a new duty on the NHS to identify carers, so they can get the information and support they deserve.”
