Response to Ofgem's decision to fine British Gas £11.1 million

Caroline Flint MP, Labour’s Shadow Energy and Climate Change Secretary, commenting on Ofgem’s decision to fine British Gas £11.1 million for failing to meet its obligations to provide energy efficiency measures to households, said:

“Under David Cameron’s Government,  Britain is facing an energy bill crisis, with millions of people struggling to heat their homes. Energy efficiency is vital to helping consumers save money on their energy bills, and if energy companies have failed to meet their obligations, it is right that there is a heavy price to pay.

“The next Labour Government will freeze energy bills until 2017, reform the energy market and upgrade at least five million homes with better insulation over 10 years. But instead of relying on the Big Six energy companies Labour will give local communities the power and support to end cold homes.”
