Douglas Alexander MP, Labour’s Shadow Foreign Secretary, said:
“There can be no justification for the use of torture. It is both illegal and morally wrong.
“This damning Senate report confirms that the use of extreme interrogation techniques by the CIA not only failed to secure actionable intelligence, but also damaged standing and reputation of the United States of America around the world.
“Any suggestion that the UK Government has new evidence to suggest that British agencies were engaged in such activities must be fully examined and resolved.”
