Chris Bryant MP, Labour’s Shadow Culture, Media and Sport Minister, responding to Ed Richards’ comments as he stands down as head of Ofcom, said:
“Yet again we learn that David Cameron and his ministers have been only too happy to cosy up to the rich and powerful and to do their friends favours.
"It was always wrong that one man, Rupert Murdoch, should have such a powerful hold over British life, and it was entirely inappropriate that Government ministers should have such casual and preferential meetings with Murdoch companies at the time that the BSkyB takeover was being considered.
"Ed Miliband was the first party leader to call time on that abuse of power and in government Labour will make sure that nobody exercises such power again.”
