Labour’s Shadow Transport Secretary, Michael Dugher MP, responding to comments today by Patrick McLoughlin on commuters having to pay more for their season tickets, said:
“As commuters have been clobbered yet again with a fare hike thanks to this Government, our Transport Secretary has basically said they can either like it or lump it. This dismissive attitude shows once again that David Cameron’s out of touch ministers couldn’t care less about hard working commuters.
“Rather than standing up to the train companies operating Britain’s rip-off railway, Mr McLoughlin’s comments reveal he thinks passengers are a soft touch.
“Labour would deliver a better deal for passengers and taxpayers by simplifying the ticketing system, enforcing a strict cap on fares on every route, giving passengers a voice in how the railways are run, and stopping passengers getting fleeced at ticket machines by making it a legal right to be sold the cheapest available ticket for a journey.”
