Jamie Reed MP, Labour’s Shadow Health Minister, said:
“David Cameron has trapped England’s A&Es in a downward spiral and, as doctors leave in their droves, the problems are only getting worse.
"Under this Government, record numbers of patients are waiting hours on end at A&E departments.
"Ministers must urgently get to grips with the A&E crisis, bring down the bill for locum doctors and ensure all hospitals have enough staff to get safely through the winter.
"Labour will rescue the NHS with £2.5 billion extra each year - over and above Tory plans - to invest in a permanent workforce, including 20,000 extra nurses and 8,000 doctors.”
