James Dyson is right to say that David Cameron and Theresa May’s new plans for international students would be bad for the British economy and show the Tories are completely muddled about immigration - Cooper

Responding to an article from inventor and entrepreneur James Dyson in the Guardian, Shadow Home Secretary Yvette Cooper MP said:

“James Dyson is right to say that David Cameron and Theresa May’s new plans for international students would be bad for the British economy and show the Tories are completely muddled about immigration.

"Instead of tackling illegal immigration, problems at border control, or the exploitation of low skilled immigration, they are targeting the highly skilled graduates who bring billions into Britain. Telling all foreign post graduates they have to leave the country immediately even if their top international talent is badly needed by post graduate scientific research centres, the NHS or our world class businesses is counterproductive and will hurt our economy and public services.

"The Tories are all over the place now on immigration. Their no ifs no buts net migration target from their last manifesto is in tatters. Now their new pledge for the next manifesto is collapsing into confusion too.”
