Alison McGovern MP, Labour’s Shadow Children and Families Minister, responding to the Findababysitter.com Annual Childcare Report which shows that 300,000 parents who want to return to work are unable to due to childcare costs, said:
“This report confirms that under David Cameron, soaring childcare costs are pricing hundreds of thousands of parents out of employment. Since 2010, childcare costs have grown by 30 per cent while working people are £1,600 a year worse off.
“We urgently need a plan that will ensure childcare is affordable and will make work pay – that’s why Labour will increase free childcare for working parents with three and four-year olds from 15 hours a week to 25. This will make a huge difference to working families across the country, as will Labour’s legal guarantee of wrap-around care for all primary school children.”
