Andy Burnham MP, Labour’s Shadow Health Secretary, responding to A&E staffing guidance from NICE, said:

“This clear guidance is welcome but many hospitals are nowhere near this level. The Government needs to set out how it will meet this. You can only deliver it with a plan to invest in the NHS and recruit more staff. Labour is committed to recruiting 20,000 more nurses, paid for by investing an extra £2.5 billion a year – on top of the Government’s plans – in the NHS.”
