Maria Eagle MP, Labour’s Shadow Environment, Food and Rural Affairs Secretary, responding to the publication of the Efra select committee report on food security, said:

“Food policy has been dominated by chaos and incompetence under this Tory-led Government which has presided over the horse meat scandal, increasing use of food banks as well as the recent dairy crisis. Today’s report is further evidence that David Cameron has no strategy to deliver a sustainable and secure food system.

“That’s why the next Labour Government will reinstate our Food 2030 strategy, to drive greater coordination across Whitehall and ensure that everybody has the chance to eat safe, healthy, affordable and sustainable food. This will also be an important part of delivering Labour’s new approach to public health to promote healthier food and bring down costs to the NHS.”
