Douglas Alexander MP, Labour’s Shadow Foreign Secretary, responding to concerns raised by business leaders about David Cameron’s approach to Europe, said:
“It’s no surprise that business leaders are expressing their concern about David Cameron’s approach to Europe. He has presided over the most significant decline in British influence in Europe for a generation.
“That is why a key foreign policy priority for an incoming Labour government will be to review, repair and reset relations with Europe upon entering office.
“Labour has urged businesses to speak up and speak out about the importance of Britain’s place in Europe to jobs, investment and growth in the UK. Because for business to speak up for Britain’s place in Europe is not about party political advantage, it is about recognising where our country’s national interest and your business interests lies. It is about patriotic duty and good business sense.”
