LucianaBerger MP, Labour’s Shadow Public Health Minister, responding to an England-wide shortage of mental health beds for children and adolescents this week, said:
“It is utterly appalling that some of our most vulnerable children and young people may not get the help they need this weekend because there are no beds available for them.
“The fact that NHS England is going against its own guidance and advising mental health trusts to put very ill children on adult wards shows just what a dire state our children’s mental health services are in.
“This
is a crisis of this Government’s own making. Since 2010, they have cut
children’s mental health services by £50 million, thousands of specialist
nurses and hundreds of doctors have been lost and children have been sent
hundreds of miles away from home or been held in police cells because there is
nowhere else for them to go. It is proof you can’t trust David Cameron with the
NHS.”Luciana
