Tristram Hunt MP, Labour’s Shadow Education Secretary, responding to reports that government policy is causing ‘excessive teacher workload’, said:

“David Cameron’s schools policy – backed to the hilt by Nick Clegg and the Liberal Democrats – has caused chaos in our schools. He has downgraded teacher quality and undermined the profession by allowing unqualified teachers into classrooms, and pupils, parents and teachers are having to pick up the pieces for a schools policy that has damaged standards and caused instability in our schools.

“This Tory-led Government will be judged on its damaging record in education and any warm words from Ministers at this point in the electoral cycle will fall on deaf ears. The constant chop and change has undermined the great work of our teachers and is harming the learning of our children.”
