Response to ICAI report ‘Assessing the Impact of the Scale-up of DFID’s Support to Fragile States’ - Mary Creagh
Mary Creagh, Labour’s Shadow Development Secretary, responding to the ICAI report ‘Assessing the Impact of the Scale-up of DFID’s Support to Fragile States’, said:
“It is right to prioritise support for people in fragile states, but this damning report from the Government’s aid watchdog shows Ministers lacked a coherent strategy which reduced the effectiveness of UK aid.
“The Tory-led Government’s target driven culture in DFID failed to focus on the long term processes of peacebuilding and nation-building.
“A Labour Government would deliver value for money and help the world’s poorest people by working with governments to tackle the long term challenges in fragile and conflict affected states.”
