Kevin Brennan MP, Labour’s Shadow Schools Minister, responding to the publication of a financial notice to improve to Cuckoo Hall Academies Trust containing revelations that a significant number of staff had started work at the academy without Disclosure and Barring Service clearance, said:

“These shocking revelations expose David Cameron’s failing plan for schools which is letting working families down.

“It is disgraceful that the Tory-led Government has allowed a trust that runs Free Schools and academies to employ a significant number of staff without first making sure they don’t pose a threat to children. Their lack of oversight of the schools system is a threat to education standards and the safety of children.

“Labour has a better plan for Education. Tough new Directors of Schools Standards at a local level will keep a check on schools to make sure that poor performance and mismanagement are caught early and dealt with.”
