Sadiq Khan MP, Labour’s Shadow Justice Secretary, responding to Nick Clegg’s speech on prisons, said:

“You can’t trust a word Nick Clegg and the Lib Dems say. For the last five years they have been part of a Government whose policies have directly led to a prisons crisis. Under Liberal Democrat ministers, there’s been a surge in suicides, a massive spike in violence and prisoners are idling their time away in their cells or on landings. Instead of trying to rewrite history, Nick Clegg should apologise for his Government’s part in causing the prison crisis and for failing to properly rehabilitate offenders, causing more misery to victims.”
