Response to the HMIC report on stop and search - Jack Dromey

Jack Dromey MP, Labour’s Shadow Policing Minister, responding to the HMIC report on stop and search, said:

“This report shows that too little has been done to properly overhaul the stop and search system.

“Inappropriate – and even illegal – use of stop and search powers causes division and mistrust between police and communities. The Government had a real chance to make a difference to the use of stop and search powers, but, instead Theresa May and David Cameron have spent four years arguing between themselves about reform and little progress has been made.

“This report should be a wake up call to everyone. We need real reform, not more tinkering at the edges.”
