Tory claims on the NHS are unravelling faster than they can make them - Andy Burnham

Andy Burnham, Labour’s Shadow Health Secretary, said:

“The campaign has only just begun and already the Tories are in chaos - their claims on the NHS are unravelling faster than they can make them. On Sunday, Jeremy Hunt claimed they would find extra funding for the NHS but today David Cameron has contradicted him.

"The truth is the Tories’ extreme plans to cut more in the next three years than the last five years mean they can’t protect the NHS.

"One thing David Cameron did get right in today’s interviews is that he will be judged on his NHS record. It is a record of crisis in A&Es, making it harder to see a GP and long waits for cancer treatment while he wastes billions on a reorganisation that he said would never happen. The NHS as we know it can’t survive five more years of the Tories.

"Only Labour has a fully-funded plan to restore the NHS with a £2.5 billion a year Time to Care Fund - over and above the Tories - to recruit 20,000 more nurses and 8,000 more GPs.”
