Responding to comments from Jean-Claude Juncker, Labour’s Shadow Europe Minister, Pat McFadden, said:
“Labour is clear that reform in Europe, not exit from Europe is the right road for Britain. David Cameron’s arbitrary timescale for a referendum in 2017 depends on him securing unanimous support from 27 other EU member states in just 24 months – but the truth is that today he has none.
“Instead of building alliances to secure reform in Europe, he’s spent the past five years burning bridges with other EU leaders. David Cameron lacks credibility in Brussels and lacks the strength to face down his own Eurosceptic backbenchers.”
