Response to David Cameron's interview on the Today programme where he repeatedly failed to say where his £12bn of cuts to social security would come from

Ed Balls, Labour’s Shadow Chancellor, responding to David Cameron’s interview on the Today programme where he repeatedly failed to say where his £12bn of cuts to social security would come from, said:

“David Cameron is ducking and weaving because he still cannot admit the truth. His pledge to cut £12 billion from social security means cutting child benefit and tax credits again.

"Tory plans would mean 4.3 million families losing an average of £1,000 a year in child benefit. And a family on £23,000 with one child would lose £1,600 a year in tax credits.

"Child benefit and tax credits are now on the ballot paper tomorrow. There is a clear choice between Labour’s better plan which will protect working families and another Tory raid on family budgets. Working people can’t afford five more years of the Tories.”
