Michael Dugher MP, Labour’s Shadow Transport Secretary, commenting on reports that the Government is considering privatising Network Rail, said:

“Network Rail is clearly still underperforming and needs to improve, but more privatisation in the running of our railways is the last thing we need.

“The damaging fragmentation of the railways caused many of the problems in the first place.  Passengers have understandably had enough of the current flawed system and the Government needs to get a grip.  Rather than breaking it up even further, what we need is a new strategic body to improve co-ordination and to add a real passenger voice in how our railways are run.”
