Chris Bryant MP, Labour’s Shadow Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport, commenting on the delayed bidding process for the 2026 World Cup, said:

“I’m glad to see that FIFA has delayed the bidding process for the 2026 World Cup. But they must change a broken bidding process system. There is no point in delaying the process if no changes are made.

“FIFA should also launch a new bidding process for the 2022 World Cup.

“The Government must also hold an urgent summit to bring together UK sponsors, broadcasters and FAs to establish a common position towards FIFA.”
