Chris Leslie MP, Labour’s Shadow Chancellor, responding to the crisis in Greece, said:

“The current crisis in Greece, together with the wider implications for the Eurozone, is deeply concerning.

“We sincerely hope that European leaders can reach a deal at the emergency summit today that will put Greece back on the right course. This is not just important for the Eurozone but for British interests too.

“The priority for UK Ministers must be to protect British exporters, pension funds and the one million British visitors to Greece. With £7 billion of UK banking exposure to the Greek economy, the UK Government must be ready for every eventuality and to act rapidly should the circumstances require.”
