Hilary Benn MP, Labour’s Shadow Foreign Secretary, responding to the Iran nuclear deal, said:
“Seeking this agreement with Iran was the right thing for the international community to do and today’s announcement represents a major diplomatic breakthrough.
"We have always said that Iran would have to demonstrate beyond doubt that it was not pursuing the development of nuclear weapons, and the independent verification and inspection arrangements that form the centerpiece of this agreement should now enable everyone to see that this is the case. In return, as Iran honours the commitments it has made, it is right that sanctions are gradually removed.
"The international community will also hope that Iran takes this opportunity to improve its relations with its neighbours so that the foundations laid by this very important agreement can be built upon in the months and years ahead.”
