Chris Bryant MP, Labour’s Shadow Culture, Media and Sport Secretary, commenting on further action announced to protect children from viewing inappropriate music videos on the internet, said:
“This is a positive step forward from the industry, music videos are often stunning pieces of filmmaking so it’s right they have the same standards as feature films to help parents make informed decisions about what is appropriate for their children to watch.
"However, the Government could be doing more; British artists need to be on a level playing field with international acts and Ministers should be working to ensure all music videos accessed from the UK have appropriate age restrictions not just those made here.
"Otherwise there’s a real risk UK artists may simply make videos overseas or young people only watch unrestricted foreign videos.
"There is also much more to do to ensure online age restrictions actually work, and that parents have the information they need to make informed choices with their children.”
