David Hanson MP, Shadow Immigration Minister, responding to the EU emergency migration summit said:  

“This is an international humanitarian crisis. What is causing migrant deaths are illegal people traffickers and the dangers brought on by the sheer desperation of people to leave their home areas due to war and threats by ISIS to cross the Mediterranean to seek safe refuge.  

"The Government must focus on getting Europe to step up to meet this challenge by identifying at first port of entry those who seek asylum or refuge, putting a plan in place to assess for asylum and to put people traffickers in jail.”
