Jonathan Ashworth MP, Labour’s Shadow Minister Without Portfolio, responding to Nigel Farage’s speech to the UKIP Conference, said:

“Nigel Farage’s speech proved he has nothing to offer working people. It shows an obsession with Europe at the expense of everything else, including the UK’s national interest.

“Working people across the country are facing massive challenges, from pressures in our NHS, to cuts to tax credits, to getting on the housing ladder. The UKIP Leader has nothing to say to them.

“Being in Europe has protected and improved workers’ rights in Britain and brought us jobs, investment, growth, security and influence in the world.

“The fact that Nigel Farage would put all of that at risk because of an ideological obsession with leaving shows he simply cannot be trusted to stand up for the people he claims to want to represent.”
