Andrew Gwynne MP, Labour’s Shadow Public Health Minister, in response to comments from Professor Jane Dacre at the Royal College of Physicians about the need for more resources to fund a seven-day NHS, said:

“David Cameron’s key election pledge now looks to be in tatters. Labour has said all along that you cannot deliver a seven-day health service without the extra resources and staff the NHS needs.

”Under the Tories patients are finding it harder to access the NHS five-days a week, let alone seven. Waiting lists are getting longer and more people are unable to see or speak to their GP.

“With hospitals facing financial crisis this winter, it’s no wonder experts say this pledge is simply not credible.”
