The appalling findings of the Bliss report show too many mothers and babies are being put at risk - Andrew Gwynne

Andrew Gwynne MP, Labour’s Shadow Public Health Minister, responding to the Bliss report on neo-natal care, said:

“It is vital that neo-natal services are adequately funded and properly staffed to ensure that all women and their babies receive safe care.

“Yet the appalling findings of this report show too many mothers and babies are being put at risk, because this Government has failed to give neo-natal services sufficient priority.

"It is particularly concerning that two in five women have no access to mental health support at what can be an extremely vulnerable point in their lives.

"With hospitals facing financial crisis, and care standards going backwards, the Government must urgently look at what more it can do to ensure the safety of all neo-natal services.”
