Seema Malhotra MP, Labour’s Shadow Chief Secretary to the Treasury, commenting on a Bow Group report on the effect of Tax Credit cuts, said:
“This damning report on George Osborne and David Cameron’s tax credit cuts from the oldest Conservative think-tank shows how even many Tories are now beginning to understand how socially unfair and economically illiterate the proposed cuts are. 3.2 million families across the UK stand to lose on average £1,300 a year if these cuts come into effect in April 2016.
“Tory MPs, including the 71 who have majorities smaller than the number of families in their constituency who will lose out from George’s Osborne’s tax credit cuts, have a clear choice tomorrow: Do they want to support working families in their constituency or do they want to support these unfair cuts? Their constituents will never forgive them if they vote to make them worse off for doing the right thing.”
