Chris Bryant MP, Labour’s Shadow Leader of the House of Commons, responding to Chris Grayling’s comments in the Commons today, said:

“Chris Grayling has just demolished David Cameron’s fake constitutional crisis. He says the working tax credits cuts couldn’t have been in a Finance Bill or a Money Bill – so even if secondary legislation were covered by the Parliament Acts these measures would still have gone to the Lords.

“The truth is the country applauded the Lords on Monday and Cameron and Osborne should get over their little tantrum and withdraw their plan to make 3.2 million working families £1300 worse off a year.”
