Ministers promised to move people out of Assessment and Treatment Units in 2011, there has been too little progress - Berger
Luciana Berger MP, Labour’s Shadow Minister for Mental Health, commenting on NHS England’s national plan for people with learning disabilities, said:
“Ministers promised to move people out of Assessment and Treatment Units and into the community, after the appalling Winterbourne View scandal in 2011.
“Since then there has been too little progress. This isn’t good enough.
“Too many people with learning disabilities have been kept in hospitals far away from their families and friends, often when they could have been cared for in the community.
“Ministers must now act to ensure this plan for change becomes a reality as quickly as possible.“
