Hilary Benn MP, Labour’s Shadow Foreign Secretary, responding to David Cameron’s speech today, said:

“It is important that the way in which the European Union works changes to reflect a changing world and Britain’s priorities.

“But we also have to say clearly that Britain is stronger and more successful because we are part of the EU.

“The Prime Minister knows this but because of the difficulties in his own party he still can’t bring himself to say it to the British people.”
