Owen Smith MP, Labour’s Shadow Work and Pensions Secretary, commenting on a new report by charity Scope on the impact of cuts to care said: 

“Members of the Tory Government should hang their heads in shame when reading this report.  It lays bare the ugly reality behind the Government’s tough talk on cuts, which is that even the most basic support for many disabled people is being removed. 

“It beggars belief that DCLG - the supposed voice for local authorities in national government - has on the very same day as this damming evidence was published, rushed to sign up for 30 per cent further departmental cuts.  Taking even more vital funding away from councils, especially those in the hardest pressed communities.  Sadly, as this report makes all too clear, we know it is disabled people who will be paying a huge price for these politically motivated cuts.”
