Michael Dugher MP, Labour’s Shadow Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport, responding to the announcement that BBC Three will move online, said:
“Many people will be deeply disappointed that BBC Three is to move online.
“The BBC has been forced into this decision due to increasing financial difficulty and we will no doubt see more difficult choices like this given the pressures it is under from the Government. Ministers need to get their act together and deliver on its promise to close the iPlayer loophole that is costing the BBC dearly.
“Under this Government, the BBC is in danger of withering on the vine. As the debate around Charter renewal continues, Labour will carry on fighting for a BBC that continues to inform, educate and entertain - one that provides something for everyone. And we will also continue to fight for a BBC that is free from hostile politically motivated attacks like we have seen from this Government.”
