Today George Osborne has refused to fully and fairly reverse the cuts to working families’ incomes that he announced in his Summer Budget - John McDonnell

John McDonnell MP, Labour’s Shadow Chancellor responding after Treasury Questions where George Osborne failed to commit to reversing his cuts to Universal Credit that has only delayed his Tax Credit cuts, said:

“Today the Chancellor has refused to fully and fairly reverse the cuts to working families’ incomes that he announced in his Summer Budget.

“For all George Osborne’s spin, the reality of his delayed cuts to tax credits is that 2.6 million working families will be £1,600 worse off, as the independent IFS has set out.

“Labour has once again offered George Osborne a way for him to reverse his own cuts - by targeting a lower surplus and reversing his giveaways to the wealthy, but once again he has no answers.

“Rather than waiting months and worrying millions of working people the Chancellor should take Labour’s advice now and commit to reversing these Universal Credit cuts today.”
