John McDonnell MP, Labour’s Shadow Chancellor, responding to the reports that the Treasury is blocking funding to regions hit by the floods, said:
“If this report is accurate it demonstrates a complete lack of understanding or sympathy by George Osborne for the seriousness of the situation and what families are going through.
"I am calling on the Prime Minister to intervene and use his authority to overrule his Chancellor if this is true.
"When we have many parts of our country under water with thousands of people filling sandbags and preparing for the worst, the government can’t be seen to be bean counting just for George Osborne’s vanity.”
