Kate Green MP, Shadow Women and Equalities Minister, said: “Labour has always been the party that has led the way on women’s equality. We have more women MPs than all the other parties put together, and women lead our party in Scotland and the House of Lords. I’m delighted that Jeremy Corbyn’s shadow cabinet again puts us ahead of the curve, with women now making up 55 per cent of the top team compared to just 33 per cent for the Tories. If David Cameron was serious about gender equality, he could start by getting his own house in order and appointing more women to the Cabinet.”
Cat Smith MP, Shadow Minister for Women, added: “We are doing more than
ever to improve representation, backed by a political plan to call time on Tory
austerity measures which are hitting women three times harder than men. While
the Conservatives like to wax lyrical about gender equality, Labour actually
puts its money where its mouth is.”
