Sharon Hodgson MP, Labour’s Shadow Minister for Children and Families commenting on Barnardo’s plea for more foster carers, as number of looked-after children would fill 2.8K classrooms said:
“Foster carers do an incredible job giving a home and stability to children and young people in need. Yet with Government figures showing the number of children in the care system at its highest since 1985, Ministers must do more to champion fostering.
“David Cameron’s focus and prioritising of adoption over other forms of care for children has meant that fostering, and other types of care provision, have been marginalised with children and foster families paying the price.
“That is why we need to see a strategy in place that improves the whole of the care system and helps to provide a loving, stable and nurturing family home for all children in care to live out their childhood.“
