Lucy Powell MP, Labour’s Shadow Education Secretary, commenting on warnings from a number of teaching and school leader unions about a national crisis in teacher numbers, said:

“Unless the Government recognises the challenges facing teacher recruitment and retention the teacher shortage crisis is only going to get worse, threatening standards and putting more pressure on schools budgets as school leaders turn to supply agencies to fill the gaps.”
