Maria Eagle MP, Labour’s Shadow Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport, responding to allegations of match fixing and corruption in tennis, said:
“The reports of match fixing that have been revealed by the BBC and Buzzfeed will be of huge concern to all of those who love tennis. The Tennis Integrity Unit must now get to bottom of these allegations and investigate with the utmost transparency to get answers to the very serious questions that have now emerged. “These are the latest in a long line of corruption allegations to hit the world of sport. The public should not have to rely on whistle-blowers and investigative journalists to weed out corruption.
“Supporters and participants must be given confidence that tennis is fair and clean, and that the Tennis Integrity Unit has sufficient resources to shine a light on these very serious reports.”
