Baroness Angela Smith of Basildon, Shadow Leader of the House of Lords, commenting on the Trade Union Bill, said:

“The Trade Union Bill is an extremely partisan piece of legislation so it is welcome that the Lords will now give the sections relating to party funding additional scrutiny.

“It is important that such significant changes to party funding are evidence-based and do not have a detrimental impact on our democracy.

“Labour will continue to oppose the unfair Trade Union Bill.”
