Barbara Keeley MP, Labour’s Shadow Minister for Older People, Social Care and Carers, commenting on warnings from the British Medical Association about the pressures on general practice, said:
“This warning from senior doctors about the state of general practice should be a wake-up call to David Cameron about his mishandling of the NHS.
"The Tories have created a workforce crisis in general practice, which has left services dangerously overstretched and put patient care at risk. The Government’s promise to recruit more GPs has been found to be inadequate, meaning the situation is likely to get worse, not better.
"Ministers need to urgently set out what they intend to do to address the crisis in general practice and repair the damage they’ve done.”
