BT announcement on nuisance calls - industry are listening, even if Ministers are not - Chi Onwurah

Chi Onwurah MP, Labour’s Shadow Minister for Culture and the Digital Economy, commenting on BT’s announcement today that they will take action to reduce the level of nuisance calls, said:

“I wrote to BT, their competitors and the Minister in October setting out an action plan for using technology to fight nuisance calls. It’s great that industry are listening, even if Ministers are not.

“This should go a long way to fighting what has become a daily menace for millions of people. In six years of Tory Government the problem has grown massively and we have seen almost no action. From my background there I ‎knew there was more to be done. I hope Ministers will not remain complacent on this. They must monitor the levels and effects these kinds of calls have on consumers and, if more action proves necessary, I hope they and the phone companies will be quicker to get together to tackle the problem.”
